Sylvan Spirits draws attention to global deforestation by capturing the woods’ haunting, mystical beauty through three poetic settings. Anne Brontë’s lighthearted “Lines Composed in a Wood on a Windy Day” gives way to the somber atmosphere of Rudyard Kipling’s “The Way Through the Woods,” and the work closes in mystery with Robert Frost’s “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.” Alternate versions for baritone and orchestra or narrator and orchestra are available upon request.
